What Happens Next

Thank you

As the SWARMMS study is now at an end, the study team would like to thank all those stakeholders who have taken part in the study; a significant number have done so. People have been involved in the study in a variety of ways, from those who have attended workshops, exhibitions and briefings (sometimes several events), to those who responded to our questionnaire in Newsletter 1. Also, over the two years of SWARMMS we have received many letters and e-mails from stakeholders. The inputs we have received have added immensely to the understanding that the study team has built up of the issues in the SWARMMS area, and provided many ideas for potential solutions.

The Next Steps

The results of the study will be debated by the regional assemblies with a view to making recommendations to Ministers on Regional Transport investment priorities in July 2002. Before coming to a view on the study recommendations, the assemblies will listen to the views of key organisations and stakeholders within their regions. Any initial views should be submitted to the assemblies by 21st May 2002, with further comments being accepted until 10th June 2002. To assist in this process the SouthWest Regional Assembly plans to hold a hearing in June 2002, at which invited organisations will have the opportunity to present their response to the study conclusions and recommendations. Where supported by the assemblies, the results of the study will be used to inform the process of reviewing and developing their Regional Transport Strategies.

Study Outputs

The SWARMMS Study is now at an end. Information produced by the study, such as newsletters and reports, will remain available on the study website.

Please Note

The Steering Group for the study is aware that some of the options being developed may cause anxiety amongst residents and businesses who fear they may be affected. No decisions have yet been taken about whether these proposals should go ahead.

The study has been taken forward in an open and consultative manner and the possible options discussed publicly. Many of the proposals are at an early stage in the planning process and if the recommendations were accepted, further work would be required to prepare and consult on detailed designs and route alignments. Thiswill allow specific impacts to be identified.
